Jenn Bouchard, the Author of “Palms on the Cape” has written an intriguing, captivating, and thought-provoking novel. The Genres in this well written book are: Friendship Fiction, Romance, and Romantic Comedy. The Author vividly describes the exquisite scenery and landscape, plot, and the colorful and dramatic characters. Jenn Bouchard describes the characters as complex, complicated, flawed, and mostly likeable and relatable. There are secrets, betrayals, twists and turns, and surprises. Rachel Sinclair, is almost 40, and is a successful owner of “Palms on the Cape” a beach bar, that caters to regulars and vacationing visitors. The people that Rachel works with are considered her family, and her best friend, Carlos is always there for her. Rachel comes from a dysfunctional and toxic family, and she dreads her visits with her manipulative and verbally abusive mother.
A group of people called the A-List come to visit the “Palms on the Cape”. They are from a Vermont business school, and one of the younger men, Tripper becomes extremely interested in Rachel. Rachel becomes very suspicious of them when she hears they are interested in her business. Rachel has become more interested in Carlos. I appreciate that the author discusses the importance of family, friendship, honesty, communication, forgiveness, second chances, love and hope.
