OMG! I loved everything about “Dog Person” by Camille Pagan, Author. This is a paw -fect book for all readers, and especially dog lovers (all animal lovers). Thank you Camille for sending the tissues. (Be warned, even if you cry at happy events, have tissues on hand) This is a masterpiece, and in this well written and unique presentation, Camille Pagan uses Harold (“Harry”) the beloved dog as the narrator. I’ve always said, “If dogs could only talk” (“Dog-Tales”).

The author vividly describes the colorful, dramatic, complex and complicated characters. I appreciate that the author used a bookstore and authors as props for this story. I love that woman authors are included, and that literacy is so important! The mention of different genres of books and author visits and book clubs is fantastic. When Amelia-May, the Romance Author that adopted Harold passes away, Harold, a seasoned and well-aged dog has the goal of making sure that Amelia-May’s significant other, Miguel, can stop grieving and begin to live. The Bookstore that the couple has is losing money, and the rent will be going up. Miguel wants to just give up the bookstore but with Harold’s help and the support of loyal employees and friends, there is hope.

When an important author scheduled to be at the store, doesn’t attend, Miguel feels more disappointed. Miguel and Harold travel to the author’s sister , Fiona, home to find out what happened to the author. Fiona has am eleven year old daughter named Amelia Mae, who falls in love with Harold. It seems that Harold feels obsessed to save both Miguel and the bookstore. There are twists and turns and some big surprises! This is a 5 star read that I highly recommend to others. I appreciate how the author discusses the importance of love and hope, family and friends, and of course dogs, and other pets. I can’t say enough about this emotional, heartfelt, memorable and thought-provoking novel. Kudos, Camille Pagan! (You did a great doggone job!)
